And coupled with their love for dramatic makeup and tight black clothes, My Chemical Romance have reached out unconditionally to champion “the broken, the beaten and the damned”.

And so, when Gerard Way, Mikey Way, Frank Iero, Ray Toro and Bob Bryar finally make it to Singapore for one-night-only concert, they bring along with them an impending sense of doom and gloom. Surprisingly though, My Chemical Romance aren’t the mad-set depressives they make themselves out to be.

I’m Not Okay

Frontman Gerard and the guys live up to their reputation: On stage, Gerard unleashes his manic energy as he leaps and bounces around, alternating between empathic screams and heartfelt serenades.

“It’s hard to put yourself out there and be such an open book with people.” Gerard reveals candidly, “You can get hurt. You make a record, and if it’s not what the majority loves, that will hurt. It happens on stage too. You put yourself on the chopping block.”

You wonder what he means, watching the band play on stage. As they careen about in front of their pitch black backdrop, you realize that the My Chemical Romance concert is akin to a theatre performance set to a dramatic soundtrack.

And with their frenzied fans in the mosh pit, the quintet feds of public love. Mikey tells us that one of the reasons why his band is always so exhausted is because they put so much into their performances. Other rockers would go on stage, belt out a couple of songs with robotic precision, and then thrash a guitar or two. My Chemical Romance lets it all out. “I don’t understand how a band can do that, you know, standing up there like they’re punching their cards like this is a job. For us, we don’t know any other way! This is how we’ve been playing since the beginning!”

Gerard chimes in, “If you don’t let anybody in, it wouldn’t be great. Opening yourself up is what makes it great. Letting people in, taking the rest, putting your heart out there … that’s what makes it great.”

Stage Antics

You can’t deny that the New Jersey rockers put in a lot of thought into their shows, evident at their concert at the MAX Pavilion at the Singapore Expo. Boys and girls alike squeeze themselves into black shirts and jeans that are a size too small. Some even have their faces painted to look like their onstage idols. And when My Chemical Romance burst into crowd favorites like Helena, I’m Not Okay (I Promise) and I Don’t Love You, the fervent devotees sang along at the top of their voices.

“There’s nothing that comes close to it,” Gerard gushes enthusiastically about his fans. “It’s the single most rewarding feeling in the world, like it beats anything. Like the fact that you can write and play something, it’s just amazing.” The band admits that most of the songs were written in their bedrooms, where the quintet worked hard to perfect their craft. And to have hundreds of thousands of people singing along to their songs has always been the biggest reward they could ever hope for.

“It’s special,” Bob adds, “especially when it happens around the world.”

Teenage Troubles

The band received one of the biggest responses from the Singapore crowd when they played their new song, Teenagers. Hot off the band’s The Black Parade album, Teenagers is a fast-paced song with a bopping beat that is made of equal parts unrequited anger and unspoken fear.

Gerard reminisces about the beginnings of the song, “I was riding the train to rehearsals in New York, and I found that I became very paranoid; I felt that I was very much out of touch with living a normal life. And every time school let out, I was very scared and didn’t know why. Everything just made me nervous because I was afraid of what kind of attention I would draw to myself. I always get nervous on subways but one day, I wrote the lyrics and melody in my head. I practiced it and showed it to everybody and most people thought I was crazy!”

The outspoken frontman of the group considers Teenagers to be the craziest song on the record – it stands out because the pop/punk influences is such an aural contrast from the goth-rock atmosphere on the rest of the album. He reveals that the five of them had many “heated debates” over whether to even include the song on the CD.

“It’s a really serious song, and it’s important for this band and the record.” Gerard explains the motivations behind the song. “We needed the lyrics to really drive the point home and what we’re trying to say. It’s a very important song because it talks about teenagers and violence, and how there are groups of them who feel that they can only solve their problems with violence. A lot of them are made to feel invisible, and this addresses a lot of issues about kids lashing out against other kids and against society.”

Posted by The Maine Campus on November 1st.
Article posted by </a></b></a>

The University of Maine's Student Government may pursue legal action against the band My Chemical Romance. After canceling Saturday night's show, Student Government sent the band two letters demanding compensation for costs incurred. These costs include advertising, money paid to outside contractors and cancellation fees. These costs total over $20,500.

The band canceled on Thursday, stating that drummer Bob Bryar's health was going to interfere with Saturday's performance. The band then played a concert on Friday night.

"Unless it is truly due to sickness or injury of the band, we intend to seek full damages for breach of contract," Derek Mitchell, the vice president of student entertainment said. "When they played Friday night, I think that kind of voids an 'Act of God' claim."

Student Government's contract with the band included an "Act of God" clause that if an emergency were to occur, the band could cancel without consequences. The contract also states that if the band cancelled without good cause the band would be charged.

Student Government has given the band two weeks to pay. After Nov. 12 the General Student Senate will vote if they want to pursue a lawsuit or not. Student Government would be represented by the legal services on campus.

"Come Monday, if we haven't received a check or have no word from them that they intend to pay, we can go to senate on Tuesday night and discuss it further," Mitchell said. He said a lawsuit would incur no additional costs to Student Government.

If Student Government does file a lawsuit, the contract states that it would be resolved in Bangor. Usually these types of cases are resolved in the band's choice of cities. "We're not going to go to their turf; they are going to have to come to ours," Mitchell said.

Mitchell said that he expects the senate to support a lawsuit if the band does not pay before Nov. 12. "Essentially this loss of $20,000 is a loss of their constituents money. It is really their obligation to allow us to legally recover that in any way possible," he said. "I'm going to fight this to death. Students will get their money back. It will come back to student entertainment, and we will have big concerts."

"I think we'd be doing a huge disservice if we didn't go forward and get the money back," Sen. Abtin Mehdizadegan said.

The executive cabinet would not comment, citing legal issues.

Tickets purchased with credit or debit cards were immediately refunded. Cash customers have to wait four to six weeks.

"The refunds are incredibly inconvenient. It was something we didn't foresee," Mitchell said. The university has to reimburse all cash-paying customers with checks because of university policy. "They are telling students it will be four to six weeks for a check; it won't take that long."

"This whole situation means that there's not going to be a concert this semester. We are going to replace it in the spring," Mitchell said. "We'll plan another major concert of similar stature to My Chemical Romance, probably not the same genre." This means that there will be two concerts in the spring semester. "It just isn't practical to get something done this semester."

My Chemical Romance did offer to reschedule at a mutually convenient date, but Mitchell declined. "It is an educational experience. Going through this kind of gives us things that we need to look out for in the future."

This is the second time My Chemical Romance has canceled a Maine show.

Band cancels Alfond appearance 2 days before show

David Dauphinee

Issue date: 10/29/07

Not since Santa canceled Christmas back in 1964 has there been the level of angst and emotional turmoil amongst the masses as when My Chemical Romance canceled their Oct. 27 University of Maine appearance Thursday night. Unfortunately for us, there was no red-beaked mutant reindeer around to make everything right again.

Student entertainment received word late Thursday night that drummer Bob Bryar injured himself while opening for Jon Bon Jovi at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. This show was the first of a two-night set the band performed with Bon Jovi, the second set being Friday night - after Bryar's injury. However, that show was not canceled.

Along with the disappointment of fans, this cancellation has left student entertainment approximately $10000 - $13000 in the hole for all the preparation that unnoticeably went into getting an act like this into our area of the back woods.

Unfortunately for Student Entertainment, an injury is contractually considered an act of God, even at a Bon Jovi concert. "Because it is considered an act of God, both parties of the contract are relieved of any obligations to that contract. While that means we don't have to pay them, it also means they don't have to pay us for any money already spent [in preparation]," Derek Mitchell, VP of Student Entertainment, said.

The majority of these fees are accrued from advertising and promotional costs, not to mention cancellation fees for everything from staging and caterers to security, even facility fees from electrical upgrades that had to be taken care of in Alfond Arena. Student Entertainment hopes to recoup some of that money from the band; however, it's looking to be unlikely at this point.

Band representatives had discussed rescheduling with Student Entertainment to a mutually agreeable date.

"I'm hesitant to do it," Mitchell said. "They're not a reliable band. They've canceled a lot of dates."

Ironically, My Chemical Romances' last cancellation was also in Maine. The band, scheduled to perform with Muse in Portland last spring at the Cumberland County Civic Center, ended up canceling mere days before the show. Several students reported having bought tickets to both the Portland show and the one that was scheduled here in Orono. This frustration is bound to put a strain on the New England fan base as many people are less likely to buy for a third time. After all, if there's one thing a college student hates, it's being inconvenienced.ent is viewing the idea of rebooking the band as a bad one, and many are considering it foolish to put that kind of money back on the line for behavior that is looking, at this point, to be a habit masquerading as an act of God.

"We're essentially going back to the drawing board as far as what acts are available for the future on what dates," Mitchell said. "At this point a lot of the tours are already booked and getting something for November/December is pretty unlikely, whereas getting something for January/February is far more doable."

In the meantime, Student Entertainment is consumed with the lengthy process of refunding the thousands of tickets already sold. Those who bought their tickets online need not worry as the online ticket sellers have already issued instant refunds. Students who bought from the athletic ticket office at Alfond can bring their tickets by and get a full refund starting Monday morning. Refunds will be given in the manner in which they were bought - cash for cash and credit for credit. If students did purchase tickets with a credit card, all they need to do is call the office with their credit card information to get a refund over the phone.

This was to be the largest show Student Entertainment and UMaine has ever produced, but Student Entertainment. is confident this will not effect the quality of the next concert to be put on.

"The point is to continue to do bigger shows than before," Mitchell said. "We're just going to be extremely hesitant to book My Chemical Romance ever again, or even anyone that works under their same management company, for that matter."

As for now, fellow black parade-ies, if you want to be chemically romanced, it's looking like you're gonna need to do it the old fashioned way.

It should be said that this is from a University of Maine newspaper.

Ok, so lots to say I guess. First things first,
sorry we've been away so long. There was a lot going on, legal troubles w/ s//c
and moving, family stuff and personal crisis, some bands breaking up and
some bands keeping productive, and a feeling that s//c was being heaped
into the lot of bullshit band dudes' t-shirt companies. I honestly have no
desire to be a part of that, and I know neither do you. Good news is that
leaving you all to your own devices has given me faith in the youth of
today and made me realize that I should never give a fuck what other
people say. If you don’t understand the crew than you never were a part of
it, and you really cant believe everything you read...I want to thank you
all for keeping s//c what it always was supposed to be, a gang, a
lifestyle, a community of kids who do it themselves...regardless of what
other people say or think of them. you all kept it down when even I forgot
why we do this. I’m sorry, it wont happen again. In fact we've decided to
do it even better this time, there are new things on the horizon friends,
things that will benefit the cause and make the "others" hate us even more
than they already do.

2nd order of bizzness.... please welcome our new friend Eddie to the s//c
family, he's handsome and awesome and his pit bull looks just like
mine.... his official job title is "gettin shit done" and also " kicking
franks ass so he does what needs to get done". I think its a match made in
jersey. Hmmm

Ok 3rd we are now restocking some choice items in the s//c store. They should be available shortly. If you want em go get em, Soon you will be able to spray paint your own favorite stuff, we will be providing downloadable stencils for just that shortly.

4th Letha-MOUTH! Is currently finishing recording this month and filming a
short (buckets O' blood) film to go along with the full-length...also there
is talk of a vinyl recording coming out previous to the full-length. Sounds
preeeetty cool hopefully this all goes according to plan.....man oh man how
do I get the inside Leathermouth scoop? I have no idea..

5th we are discussing having a virtual gallery for all you artists out
there.... I feel bad we cannot use your ideas or drawings for the clothing
due to legal reasons however i do think that so many of you are very
talented so I would like to develop a spot on our site where you can
submit your art and have it viewed by everyone who wants to see up and
coming artists...sound good? And

6th I would like to honor the forward thinking young adults who took it
upon themselves to start s//c , Leathermouth & David Costa street teams. Thank
you, thank you, thank you... you, my friends, are my new favorite people,
honestly without kids like you this would never survive, keep up the good
work. Not only am I disgusted that the majority of the Used’s fame relies on broken relationships with Kelly Osborne and Gerard Way, but trash-talking My Chemical Romance to sell records. I also find McCracken’s widely acknowledge substance abuse to be a bad influence on a very naïve generation of fans, especially when I started listening to them at the age of 12. When I found that Bert had started mouthing someone he publicly acknowledge as a good friend, it make me think :”Is he just some skuzzy rock start that screams out a song or two before vomiting onstage to sober up enough to make it through a set?” When I witnessed his drunkenness at a Vans Warped Tour show, I’d lost all respect, as he drunkenly wobbled around with a megaphone telling kids not to watch My Chemical Romance</i> perform. So, AP, I still love you but I am a little disappointed in your article attempting to glorify a drug addict and backstabber.”

Steven’s Untitled Rock Column
THIS MONTH: Weird Shit

Last month’s column was devoted to the folks behind the scenes of Untitled Rock Show, so this month I decided to devote some space to some of the weird and crazy crap that’s happened to me s the result of being a big bad television host.

(it lists others before the one about Gerard, fourth one is about Gerard)

Putting on makeup with Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance
This was the first incarnation of the Rockstar Taste of Chaos, too. Gerard gave me a makeup tutorial and the picture of our faced all done up has made the rounds. Sean’s vocals are anything I had never heard. Was I hardcore? Was I math-rock? Who cared! It was really good. I loved the freedom of Coalesce , and the fact that my parents hated it and some of my friends were confused by it and thought it was just noise? That just confirmed that I was on to something great

(once again, we’ll skip to another Frank moment)

Iero: If you can’t hear the influence of Coalesce on today’s music scene, you’re just plain dumb. At times it’s as easy as listening for the high-pitched chord that is in every modern hardcore/metal breakdown song: It’s the chord that killed hardcore. Bands don’t even know who they are playing homage to when they do it nowadays, it’s kind of sad. But that’s not the part Coalesce that spilled over. It was the band’s stage performance, their approach to the music that, in my eyes, affected the music scene. There were no boundaries and no apologies. Expect for when James Dewees throws his floor tom into the crowd and knocks your girlfriend unconscious. Then you get a free t-shit and an “I’m sorry.”

CoDy
FIF

Mcr News - August 12th 2007

This is an article posted in an Irish newspaper.
From the MCRmy.
Posted for FIF.net

Tired and emo

With their most recent album, My Chemical Romance moved beyond their core goth-emo-punk fanbase and appealed for the first time to older music fans. Frontman Gerard Way tells Tony Clayton-Lea about his addictions, his hopes of becoming an author, and the band's complex relationship with their teen followers

The band meet'n'greet is a curious phenomenon. The parade of teenage autograph hunters - mostly prize winners and the offspring of people working in the music business - talk urgently to each other as they await the band.

Some acts react differently to meet'n'greets; we recall that Korn and Puddle of Mudd were almost as giddy as the kids, swapping high fives and utterances of "dude!" as the shuffling, long-haired queue came to town. We remember Finland's Him being so friendly and sensual (in a menthol cigarettes, Bacardi-breath and tattoo-parlour kind of way) we had to prise female teenagers away from them.

My Chemical Romance did the grip'n'grin differently. There was a sense of not really wanting to do it, for a start, which is understandable. And then there was - unusual as it sounds, considering the band's success of recent times - an obvious self-consciousness, as if the long line of teen goths/punks/emos/etc, each one holding something to sign, just shouldn't be there.

Gerard Way, flamboyant frontman of MCR (or "My Chem", as he calls his own band), is aware that the perception of him changes during these moments. The young fans reckon he is stand-offish, when in reality he's experiencing a shyness that is, possibly, criminally vulgar. Simply put, Way doesn't like meeting strangers.

"I'm quite self-confident," he says, "but the healthy dose of arrogance I have is blended with extreme self-consciousness. So when we're at meet'n'greets or signings, I hardly say two words to people. I'm very closed off because, after a gig, I feel like I've spilled my guts and if I meet people after that it's almost like they know something about me but I know nothing about them. And that's weird, an unfair trade."

Way is in a trading phase at the moment, talking to The Ticket on the same weekend that MCR's Teenagers single is released. He looks fit, healthy, eager; he has been alcohol- and drug-free since 2004, when his addiction to cocaine left him suicidal. His only active addictions are to cigarettes and coffee.

"I'm addicted to work, but the positive thing there is that I'm really prolific, and I always have a song in my head. I store them in there for years, so that's awesome. The negative? I'm largely addicted to anything. Cigarettes? Can't quit 'em, especially in Europe - lots of down time and too much time on the tour bus."

Way's less visible but no less real addictions, he adds, are truth and honesty, each of which he finds exhilarating. "That's why that record was so personal."

The record in question is The Black Parade , MCR's crossover album (their third) of last year. Prior to its release MCR were riding the crest of a small wave. Their second album, Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge , shifted more than two million copies, making them just another successful US rock act dishing up dollops of streamlined goth/emo/punk to the youthful masses - their demographic core consists of disaffected teens, hormonally charged misfits and, perhaps crucially, a fanbase more than 50 per cent female (a by-product of their fiercely anti-macho stance).

Come last October, however, something else kicked in: The Black Parade 's mixture of ambitious concept, piano ballads, vaudeville and knuckle-cracking punk/pop brought an older audience to the party, while still holding their teen fanbase in thrall to Way's black humour and sombre scenarios. The Black Parade sold well over three million copies, making MCR one of the hottest US rock acts around.

Judging by the demeanour of the band backstage - no hissy fits, just guys dressed in black playing pool and shooting nothing other than the breeze - success rests easy on their heads.

Yet, still Way worries about the fanbase, as evinced by a line in Teenagers: they "scare the living shit out of me".

"That song was written at a time when we had come off tour from Sweet Revenge , and I was connecting with a new kind of fanbase. We got big from Sweet Revenge , and all of a sudden our fanbase had grown. The growth was due to teenagers, which is something I feel we hadn't had before.

"Anyway, because I was getting older I found I was quite disconnected, and wondering how I was going to be able to connect. I'm 30 years of age now, but Teenagers was written also about Columbine and the violence in US schools. When you're in school you're put into tribes and you're pitted against each other, and I assumed that the majority of our fanbase was made up of the kind of kid that was different, possibly picked on at school. Yet we as a band didn't ever want them to turn to violence to solve any problem they might have."

The band take their fans and passions seriously, he says. "We've always respected them a lot, taken them seriously, and when we make music we don't dumb it down. We're assuming that they're as smart as us, if not smarter."

Does fan adulation ever get worrying? "We've never had a problem with that. The only time I've run into problems is that occasionally you bump into someone who feels some kind of ownership over the band. It's not a common one, though."

MCR exists, according to Way, because of 9/11. Working as a comic book illustrator paled into insignificance compared with what he watched on television. He has said that the band (which took its name from Irving Welsh's Ecstasy) was born out of post-traumatic stress disorder and plugged instantly into the zeitgeist notion of claiming one's destiny. The rise of My Chem, has been rapid and, he admits, surprising.

"When we started I knew we were something special, and I thought that if the world got it - what we did and wanted to do - then we'd be really big. If they didn't get it, I thought, then we'd still have a cult following and be able to make music. That's how special I thought we were. We'd either be a band that inspired a lot of bands, or we'd get big. We were never ready for any of it, however.

"During Sweet Revenge it was so difficult to come to grips with what was happening. It was like losing ownership of your songs - when they're out there, you lose them - and people misinterpreting your messages and meanings. Then you're on the cover of teen magazines and yet you're not doing interviews with them; they're just using old quotes and old photos. You have no control over how they portray you, or they're talking about your personal life with no input from you. What kind of girl you'd like to date - that kind of stuff is so bullshit, for lack of a better term.

"Unfortunately, when you become a part of that unwillingly, it can strip away some of the meaning. But you have to do your best."

The journey shows no signs of coming to a halt. For someone who doesn't like to draw attention to himself, perhaps Way has chosen the wrong career?

"It's the kind of thing that when you look back on it, you're very proud of what you've accomplished with your friends. It isn't easy, though, especially when you're trying to retain a sense of identity and privacy. There's a lot that's yanked out of you, that's for sure; it's very rigorous.

"You close yourself off, but you can prevent it, because at the end of the day it's your decision. You just go with your gut instinct, because your gut is smarter than your heart."

And yet the feedback from the fans - that's from the heart, too? "Well, yes, and that's the pay-off. It's really about meeting the kids that tell you they started a band, or that they're going to art school. The Black Parade's sole message - essentially a story about death - was to inspire, not to instruct or to lead, but to inspire."

And how, exactly, does MCR intend to follow it up? "The way to top it is to reverse some of the things that made the record so successful - make a more human record, expose more, become raw."

The Black Parade and Teenagers are out now

See/Hear

For a six-song video session, visit http://music.aol.co.uk/sessions/ and click on My Chemical Romance in the A-Z archive

My Way: Gerard's teenage years

"I was sitting at the back of the classroom trying to get people to not pay attention to me, looking for privacy and doing my own thing. Tests and everything came easy to do, so I didn't really do homework, just my own thing. I was an outsider, although someone that was not really picked on. It's almost like I wanted to make a band that wasn't there for me in high school.

"Even though there were a lot of bands that inspired me and I loved when I was at school - Green Day and so on - My Chem was always supposed to be different, tapping directly into that part of your brain that made you an outsider."

Way says he would eventually like to write books. He mentions people who have crossed over from lyric writing to something deemed (rightly or wrongly) more substantial: Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Nick Cave.

"I like creating things. I'm a very OTT performer, but I'm not really the kind of person who is drawn to attention. I'm very much a guy that likes to hang back and that's why writing appeals to me."

CoDy

Joy.

- Download is one of their favourite festivals, and because the U.K. is their "Unofficial home" and Download is a U.K. thing, they were honoured to close it, but nervous about screwing up, of course.

- Gerard said that the spot second-to-last is the best to have, because you have "Nothing to lose and everything to gain", because there's no pressure of closing the festival/being at the top of the bill, etc.

- They weren't completely there, production-wise, so they'd have to give it all they could.

- There is a spark shower right before they play Disenchanted on tour, and at one particular show, Gerard noticed that Mikey was standing right beneath where the spark shower would come out from and was therefore in danger. Mikey (bless him) didn't take Gerard's hints to move away and was just sort of smiling back at him when Gerard tried to get his attention, so The Man had to go over and grab his brother out of the way before he was showered in hot sparks. Cheers, Gerard!

- On the subject of other bands chatting shit about them, Gerard said that he thinks it's all bollocks, basically, and many people do it for the press attention it brings due to the fact that they probably have a new album coming out or something. He said the guys aren't too bothered by what other people say and don't respond because it's not the worth the hassle, but that if someone such as Elvis Costello were to blast the band, they'd respond because Elvis Costello is hardcore and worth their time and attention. (Gerard didn't say hardcore, that was my word, but I thought it was suitable. ;-) Hehe.)

- Ray, Bob and Gerard all wanted to see Megadeath play and Bob has some serious Guitar Hero skillzzz and can play Hanger 18 at expert level from memory on the game. Gerard then said that Bob could probably stand there, watching Megadeath play, and recite the colours you'd need to press on the game to score really highly. "Red, blue, green..." (Aw, lovely little Bob... Lol. ;-)

- The band aren't responsible for how other people behave and they don't try to project an image of being "Human and real" - It's just how they are.

- There are things he just doesn't talk about because they are personal and special to him and are unconnected with the band.

And finally...

- His most embarrassing festival moment was when his trousers fell down at Warped Tour. He said he weighed about 212lbs then, and responded to one of the presenters, saying that, Yes, he was thankful that he wasn't wearing "The special pants" (meaning underwear), because that would have made it worse. The male presenter had suggested that he could have been wearing a woman's thong or something. Lol.

Here we are again, FIF updates from my LJ. It is good for something besides networking.
Anywho, if any of my text gets posted on myspace today, I'm going to harm some people.
Although, I do find it flattering that you would copy my amazing writing. I feel special.
Remember, credit when taking.

This is a Frank-Iero-Fan EXCLUSIVE.
Helen sent in these great scans from a UK magazine called Sugar. Check out the MCR feature below.
Page 1
Page 2
Page 3
Page 4

MCR is named the most unintentionally funny album of 2006... according to cracked.com. Check out what they had to say here.

The famed MCR zombie figures, and their human counterparts, are being sold on ebay for a whooping $900. Apparently, there were only 40 of these sets ever made, and they were exclusviely for the figure designers, the band, and management. You can check them out here.

JstAnthrfuneral24 on the MCRmy says that Mikey announced on a phone conversation at a local rock radio station that he would probably be back to play at Projekt Revolution. However, Bob is saying plans have changed and he won't. Can't wait for Mikey or are you loving Matt?

O-Rock 105.9 in Flordia is having a top 400 countdown on the 4th of July. MCRmy members are encouraging fans to vote and get "Teenagers" to #1. Show your stuff.

supwiththis got a very special birthday cake. Check it out.

The comedy book "Everybody Hurts" is the supposed essential guide to emo culture. Yeah, sterotypes! Anyway, the book is hilarious, and fans report that they refer to Mikey and Gerard in it frequently. Give it a read.

In Fuse's Warped Countdown of most popular, or most influencial people from the tour, the top 3 are as follows:
3. Bert from the Used
2. My Chemical Romance
1. The fans.

Last for today, Blade You Stain posted an article from StarPulse:
"My Chemical Romance guitarist Frank Iero misses bassist Mikey Way so much that he emails him every day. The Helena bassist is currently taking time out of the rock group to spend time with his new wife Alicia Simmons.

Iero says, "I miss Mikey. Fuck man, I miss the shit out of him. I'm so pissed off he isn't here. I want him to come back as soon as humanly possible. The only good thing is that we get to play with Matt Cortez (Way's temporary replacement), who's a really good friend of ours. The ladies seem to like him too - he's not bad on the eyes! Mikey will be back when he's ready to come back and I can't wait for that. I email him every day. Actually he told me to stop emailing him the other day because I was sending him so many messages!""

I'm out.
Peace
CoDy
http://www.frank-iero.net

Alright, if you are reading this, its a VERY touchy subject you are about to indulge in. Seriously, people, this is someone's personal life.
This letter was posted on INO.net, and the My Chemical Managment has claimed that the writer was Frank.
HOWEVER, I was informed it was written by Meghan Mayhem of WMHC.com, which is an editorial site, and home to Eliza Cuts.

Hi
>
>I felt I had to write to you guys to allay some of your fears regarding the
>rumours and speculation surrounding Gerard and Eliza and the future of the
>band.
>
>This is the only time I will ever post. I will not be able to respond to
>your comments or enter into discussion or debate on what I'm about to say.
>
>We are aware that this is one of the most popular message boards for MCR
>fans and we know you guys are the most dedicated and loyal fans in the
>world. It saddens me to see such division amongst the fans over one woman.
>If it's any consolation, you guys are not the only ones affected. She is
>merely tolerated by both band and crew. Believe me, nothing anyone can say
>will change his mind. She's been the cause of numerous conflicts and while
>we don't have to like it, we have to accept it, at least for the forseeable
>future.
>
>From day one this woman has had a hidden agenda - her manipulation knows no
>bounds. Some of you may find this difficult to believe but I assure you I
>have personally witnessed the two sides of this woman. Her so-called 'good
>deeds' are nothing more than PR exercises for his benefit. But he does not
>see what goes on behind closed doors.
>
>We have tried to draw his attention to her blatant self-promotion and diva
>demands. This is a prime example of love being blind. His feelings for her
>do run very deep. Her feelings for him, however, are questionable at best.
>Many people believe, including myself, that he is being used as nothing
>more than a stepping stone. It's disheartening to see someone you care
>about and have worked with for a very long time change as a person,
>becoming more detached and causing the group dynamic to change as a result.
>
>There have been conflicts and differences of opinions and compromises have
>had to be made She does not accompany the band on the European legs of the
>tour. Since being on this current European leg, he seems much happier which
>suggest she doesn't make him as happy as he thinks.
>
>Despite being asked more than once to remain discreet, she blatantly
>disregards his wish to keep his personal life private by continually
>fuelling the internet hype. The band has always been about the music and
>the fans. This will not change. MCR have never endorsed any type of clique
>as it encourages and promotes the kind of high school mentality that MCR
>have always fought against.
>
>Your continued support is appreciated and rest assured this woman will have
>no adverse affect on the band and the music. For obvious reasons I am
>remaining anonymous.
>
>Eliza, we know you trawl these message boards and you probably know who I
>am - but I'd like to see you try and prove it!!!

This was emailed to me, as the original has since been deleted from the INO boards.
I guess peoples persona isn't as it seems behind closed doors and in a confined world.
Also, as of June 10th, Meghan Mayhem is no longer a part of the WMHC.
Don't shoot the messenger, I am merely informing the fans, as I feel they have the write to read any content avaliable to them.

CoDy
FIF

Does Marilyn have the "juice" to tango with Gerard?

Posted by shortykay on LJ.

Gerard Way from My Chemical Romance spoke at the Oxford Union tonight, in a question and answer session. He seemed very nice, articulate and funny.

I had considered asking him about his response to Marilyn Manson's comments in which he called the band sad and pitiful and accused them of ripping him off. Someone had just asked a question relating to events such as the Virginia Tech shooting and Columbine, in which blame was placed on figures like Marilyn Manson, and Gerard had spoken about how Marilyn Manson's worldview seemed to be that the world was a very ugly, hateful place, whereas MCR are more hopeful, and try to find the beauty in life. Feeling that this was a good time to ask my question, I asked Gerard what his response to MM's comments was. He kind of laughed, as if he'd been expecting it. He spoke about how angry a person Marilyn Manson seems to be, although intelligent. He then said that he didn't see that they were particularly similar in look, and then said "We certainly don't sound the same. You can take that however you want". He also seemed to make a slight dig at MM later in the session, after someone had asked him about the Daily Mail's scaremongering about emo bands, and the people who claimed that MCR were some sort of cult. He said that they didn't want to be a cult, but that certain other musicians who had been mentioned tonight would probably like to have people worshipping them.

In other news, his favourite historical figure is Joan of Arc and his favourite US President is Abraham Lincoln (who is "awesome"). And his reaction to some of the sexism, homophobia and general prejudice he'd witnessed in the punk scene was to say "Ok, I'm gonna wear make-up and touch dudes". Oh, and his most embarrassing moment on stage was when he knocked his belt buckle, causing it to come undone and his trousers to fall down. Apparently he was wearing really bad underwear at the time.

MCR in Singapore

ROMANCING SINGAPORE
Rockers My Chemical Romance plan year-end show here.

FANS take note: Multi-million selling American rockers My Chemical Romance look set to visit Singapore in the near future.

"It will happen and talks are under way right now," lead singer Gerard Way told TODAY over the phone from his home in Portland, Oregon, where he was resting up before flying off for the Japanese leg of the group's current tour.

The tour is in support of their 3rd offering THE BLACK PARADE, a concept album centering on a character called "The Patient" that has sold nearly 3 million copies worldwide since its released last October.

The album has shifted over 15,000 copies in Singapore, which should make for a healthy crowd if the band plays here.

"No dates have been set yet but we're definitely looking to cover all cities in Asia," said the soft-spoken 30-year-old.

A spokesman from the band's label, Warner Music, added: "Promoters are currently pitching a date for tehir Singaporean debut for yyear's end".

This is big news for fans, especially since the New Jersey based band - formed by Way and former drummer Matt Pelissier a week after the 911 attacks - is arguably one of the hottest rock bands around.

Often seen as a cross between rockers Queen and punk legends, The Misfits, the quintet, - also made up of guitarists Ray Toro, 29, and Frank Iero, 25, drummer, Bob Bryar, 27, and way's younger brother bassist Mikey Way, 26 - are known to mix rock pomp with teenage melodrama.

But while the band's distinctive dark clothes and eyeliner seem to suggest something sinister, Way said it's more about influence from the realms of fantasy and storytelling - not to mention classic rock.

"Don't get me wrong, there have been some very good rock albums in the past 10 years but we wanted to do something just as theatrical as the ones you used to get from Queen and Alice Cooper."

However, one thing annoys Way: Despite the best efforts, the band has has been lumped into the so-called "emo" genre.

Shorth for emotional hardcore, emo has been used to refer to post-punk bands like Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco and to their fringe-haired, eyeliner-wearing fans.

"Emo is the term that really has no bearing on us at all, it has nothing to do with us and never has," Way said. "When we started out as a band, it was difficult for us to be put on shows because we were often considered not emo enough, so it's funny that we're so associated it with these days."

"Most of all, this emo thing is just a tag that's been on to us by some journalists.
